On September 23, a delegation from the SFL conducted a specialized visit to the College of Foreign Languages and Literature at Fudan University. The visit focused on key aspects of university foreign language teaching reform, interdisciplinary curriculum development, and talent cultivation. The aim was to draw on Fudan’s advanced experience, explore innovative approaches to public foreign language teaching reform, and gather ideas for SFL’s own teaching reform initiatives.

Xue Haixia, Party Secretary of the College, warmly welcomed the SFL delegation. She provided a comprehensive overview of the background, philosophy, and concrete measures of the College’s reform programs, as well as the challenges encountered and phased achievements. Vice Dean Fan Ye detailed innovative measures in Fudan’s college foreign language teaching reform , including a tiered teaching mechanism, flexible credit systems, customizable course selection, GPA assessment reforms, and digital empowerment. She explained how the Fudan English Level Test helps monitor and maintain teaching quality. The College offers courses such as General Academic English, Discipline-Specific Academic English, Intercultural Communication and micro-program modules to meet diverse student needs. Additionally, through extracurricular activities like the Writing Center and Speech Center, it provides tailored support for students of all proficiency levels, ensuring student-centered and individualized instruction.
Vice Dean Chen Jie introduced the “2+X” cultivation model and detailed the selection mechanisms, training pathways, and innovative measures related to eight majors across seven languages under Fudan’s “X+AI” dual bachelor’s program. Deputy Party Secretary Wang Yapeng shared how the student affairs team integrates professional practice with career development, leveraging alumni and wider social networks to establish internship bases and corporate partnerships, and enhancing career guidance through systematic planning and training camps.
The visit provided SFL with both conceptual and practical insights. The delegation systematically studied the innovative practices of Fudan university in foreign language teaching reform and interdisciplinary integration, and was deeply impressed by its pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence. Building on this visit, SFL will strengthen communication and collaboration with Fudan university, promote new measures in public foreign language teaching, and build a collaborative ecosystem for advancing foreign language discipline.
