A delegation from our School of Foreign Languages (SFL) conducted a study visit to its counterpart at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on October 16. The exchange focused on College English teaching reform, AI applications in education, language lab development, and talent cultivation.

Zhu Yifan, Party Secretary of the SJTU School of Foreign Languages, welcomed the delegation and introduced the school's organizational structure and its integration with teaching and research activities. Vice Dean Tao Qing highlighted a dual-teacher model for a graduate course - Translation for International Communication, which pairs faculty members with industry experts to enhance students' practical skills. Vice Dean Jiang Yan detailed reforms in the College English curriculum, including a tiered teaching system and the integration of AI. Professor Zhang Li shared insights on using generative AI tools to support adaptive learning in English writing courses. Professor Ding Hongwei discussed interdisciplinary approaches to language lab development, combined with cognitive science and information technology. Hua Jia, Director of the Student Affairs Office, introduced programs like the "Global Challenge Program" to boost students' practical abilities and global competence.

SFL Dean Pan Zhidan expressed appreciation for the sharing of experiences and reaffirmed the intent to strengthen future collaboration.

The visit provided SFL with valuable insights into SJTU's innovative practices in teaching and talent development. Our school will take this exchange as a foundation to explore new approaches to foreign language teaching and deepen cooperation, supporting the cultivation of high-level, application-oriented talent.
